İstanbul's tourism and meetings sector is moving toward measurable sustainability standards. Türkiye's national sustainability certification program “Environmental and Cultural Sustainability Program” for accommodation runs in line with Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria and is independently audited and re-verified each year. ICVB's Green İstanbul initiative, developed with the Turkish Hotels and Investors Association (TUROB) and Bureau Veritas, has certified hotels and venues on environmental practice since the city hosted the 5th World Water Forum. Associations meetings in İstanbul can build sustainability commitments into their program with local partners already working to these standards.
